Daniel assures Nicole that they can leave Salem as a couple, not just friends. Daniel wants her in his life. Nicole presses for a departure date. Daniel tells her as soon as there are no repercussions from EJ. Rafe enters, revealing that EJ is not going to let this go. EJ arrives and confronts them all. Surprisingly, he announces that he will not be pressing any charges. Daniel, Rafe and Nicole question his sincerity. After hearing EJ's proclamation, Daniel takes a call from Jennifer. He assures her that things are going to be OK. Jennifer believes him. Daniel has one more issue to settle before leaving Salem with Nicole. He admits to Nicole that he still has feelings for Jennifer, but those feelings are not mutual. He refuses to pine away for someone he cannot have. And because he still cares about Jennifer, he will only leave with Nicole if she drops the murder charge against Jennifer.
