Daniel is at the hospital. Cameron gives Daniel an update on patients before he goes off duty. Daniel asks about Abigail. Cameron tells him that Jennifer and Abigail have just now returned to Salem from California. Later, Daniel runs into Jennifer in the park. The mood is solemn and awkward as they fumble for the right words to say to each other. Daniel tells her he is sorry for her loss. They sit for a bit and Daniel tells her he knows it is hard. A past remembrance can sneak up on and catch you off guard. Jennifer realizes that Daniel truly understands what she is going through. He is well versed in this emotional toll after losing his wife, Rebecca. He compassionately tells her "if he can do anything..." Jennifer thanks him, but sadly replies she "wouldn't know what to ask for". Daniel accepts that and respectfully moves away to let her be.
