Daniel is summoned to the Carver home to check on Lexie after she had fainted. When he arrives, Lexie conveniently sends Abe and Celeste on an errand for soup, so that she can talk with Daniel alone. Daniel listens as Lexie tells him she knows her health is failing and her body is beginning to shut down. Daniel admires her strength and grace. Lexie requests that Daniel not disclose how limited her time is. She wants her family to enjoy the rest of their time together. Daniel respects Lexie's wishes, but tells her he is there for her if she needs to talk. When Abe and Celeste return, Daniel excuses himself to return to the hospital. Abe walks him out. Daniel offers his help to Abe as well. He has been through this before with his wife, Rebecca, when she died of cancer. Abe thanks Daniel for his support.
